Benevia Insecticide: A guide to use it

Benevia is a popular insecticide that is used to control a variety of pests in the agricultural industry. It is a synthetic compound that belongs to the Group 28 insecticides, and it has the ability to disrupt the feeding behaviour of insects.

In this blog, we will discuss everything you need to know about Benevia, its uses, benefits, and potential risks.

What is Benevia?

Benevia is a trade name for the active ingredient cyantraniliprole. It is a systemic insecticide that is absorbed by the plant and provides long-lasting protection against pests.

Benevia acts by disrupting the feeding behaviour of insects, causing them to stop feeding and eventually leading to death.

Uses of Benevia

Benevia is primarily used to control lepidopteran pests such as caterpillars, armyworms, and loopers in a variety of crops. It can be applied to crops either as a foliar spray or a soil drench.

Benevia is commonly used in fruits and vegetables, as well as in ornamental plant production.

Benefits of Benevia

There are several benefits to using Benevia as an insecticide. First and foremost, it can provide effective control of a wide range of insect pests, reducing crop damage and increasing yields.

Benevia is also long-lasting, providing protection for several weeks after application. It is also easy to use and has a low risk of phytotoxicity.

Benevia is also effective against insect pests that have developed resistance to other insecticides, making it a valuable tool in integrated pest management programs.

It is also relatively safe for non-target organisms such as bees and other beneficial insects when used according to label instructions.

Potential Risks of Benevia

While Benevia is generally safe to use when applied according to the label instructions, there are some potential risks to be aware of. The compound is toxic to bees and other beneficial insects, so care should be taken to avoid spraying during periods of high activity.

It is also toxic to aquatic organisms, so it should not be used near water bodies or in areas where runoff may contaminate water sources.

There is also concern about the potential impact of cyantraniliprole on non-target organisms, such as birds and mammals, which can be exposed to the compound through the consumption of contaminated insects or plant material.

For this reason, it is important to use Benevia responsibly and with care, and to follow best management practices for environmental protection.

Conclusion

Benevia is a powerful insecticide that has numerous benefits for farmers and horticulturists. It can provide effective control of a wide range of insect pests, reducing crop damage and increasing yields.

However, it is important to use Benevia responsibly and with care, as there are potential risks associated with its use. Always follow the label instructions and take steps to minimize any negative impacts on the environment and non-target organisms.
